New Update: ID Released For Police Officer Killed In Taconic Parkway Crash

Officials have identified a police officer killed in a crash while investigating another accident.

The incident happened around 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18 on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill.

East Fishkill Police Department officer Daniel P. DiDato, age 47, was traveling to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla to continue an investigation with an accident victim when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree.

He was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he died from his injuries.

DiDato had served with the department since 2005, however, his law enforcement career started in 2001 with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Acting East Fishkill Police Chief Derrick Cuccia said.

dDiDato's hometown has been released yet.

"Officer DiDato was everything that encompassed a great police officer and friend," the chief said. He was genuine, smart, courageous, tough, and witty.

"The town of East Fishkill Police Department expresses its deepest sympathies to Officer DiDato's family and friends and mourns the loss of one of our own."

East Fishkill Town Supervisor Nicholas D'lessandro said the town was "grateful for Officer DiDato's service and sacrifice, and we will honor his memory by continuing to uphold the values he embodied."
